Sam Wilson began on piano at age 7 and picked up
guitar at age 13. He began playing and gigging
regularly with a local rock band for four years until
his interests turned to jazz and classical. He
attended James Madison University as a classical
guitar major and began gigging all over the dc/va area
as a jazz guitarist. He recieved his degree in 2002.
He has studied with Gene Bertoncini, Royce Campbell,
and Kurt Rosenwinkel. He performs with such artists
as John D'earth, Howard Curtis, Bobby Read, Royce
Campbell and Tony Martucci. He has performed at the
Richmond Jazz Festival, East Coast Jazz Festival, The
British Embassy among others and has held a weekly gig
at calhouns restaurant for 3 years in Harrisonburg,
va. He plans on someday attending grad school to
focus on jazz perfomance and composition as he is an
avid composer as well as player.
